shedding maternal composites

SHEEP GENETICS THAT WORK FOR YOU

shedding maternal composites

Performance recorded maternal composite shedders.
We're focussed on breeding the composite sheep of the future, an animal that minimises workload and maximises profits. Focusing genetic selection on clean shedding, highly maternal genetics with plenty of growth and parasite resistance. Using the highest performing maternal shedding genetics available we're creating animals that get the job done, with high selection pressure being applied to the Lochs flock to ensure we deliver genetics that will perform at the top. We understand the desire from the composite industry to do something about the devide between wool income and costs (the driving force of our move to shedders). So we're determined to offer the genetics that will do it, whilst keeping a firm focus on productivity and profits. Join our mailing list to ensure you receive newsletters and sale catalogues first.

breeding objectives

high muscling
Strong focus on high PEMD. Giving more width and depth, an increase in the ability to maintain CS, a more valuable carcass, increase in fertility and capping adult ewe size are just a few of the benefits.
high fat
Optimising PFAT on the higher end of the scale. Creates sheep that store energy when times are good, and keep it onboard for tougher times. Enables increased stocking rates, and improves fertility and lamb birthweight in tough times.

High growth

Early growth, and plenty of it. Pivotal in getting the work done early, sale lambs away and ewe lambs pregnant. Important to find the curve benders that do it early, then cap mature weight.
clean SHedding
We are focussed on delivering genetics that can take the wool off sheep quickly. In the stud stock we have a zero tollerance to dags and want to help people take the workload associated with wool out of their system.
highly fertile
Fertile genetics that conceive well and get those lambs to weaning. ERA (and YERA) and WR (and YWR) are followed closely while muscle, fat and early growth also contribute to creating a highly fertile animal.
worm resistant
Breeding sheep in a 1200mm rainfall is the place to breed worm resistant genetics. No one likes drenching, so lets breed sheep that require less of it.
